They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. This is especially true for Southern Illinois Dyslexia Center and Edwardsville Lodge #99. On July 16th, 2022, Edwardsville Lodge #99 fired up their griddles and put their spatulas to work by hosting a breakfast fundraiser. All the proceeds that they raised were earmarked for one specific purpose: The Southern Illinois Dyslexia Center in Collinsville, Illinois.

The Southern Illinois Dyslexia Center has been helping students with Dyslexia since 2002. They provide tutoring to students in grades 1st through 12th and they work hard to provide these services free of charge. The Collinsville center is part of the larger Children’s Dyslexia Center that has 45 centers across 13 states. In Illinois alone, there are 7 Dyslexia centers. During 2021, the Children’s Dyslexia Center as a whole provided services to 1,321 children.

Edwardsville Lodge #99 recognized the amazing work that the Collinsville center is doing for students with Dyslexia. While they raised funds through their breakfast fundraiser, the Edwardsville Lodge #99 wanted to do more. Through partnering with the Illinois Masonic Children’s Assistance Program (IMCAP), Edwardsville Lodge #99 was able to use the Youth Organization Connection to provide more funds to the Southern Illinois Dyslexia Center.

The Youth Organization Connection provides microgrants to youth organizations and events that an Illinois Masonic Lodge supports. Lodges can apply for this microgrant by completing a proposal and submitting it to IMCAP. Since Lodges know their community best, IMCAP acts in partnership to support the Lodge’s endeavors. With your local expertise, IMCAP is able to provide more assistance to more children in your communities.

If your Lodge knows of a youth organization or event that the Lodge would like to support, please contact IMCAP at imcap@ilmason.org. For more information about the Youth Organization Connection and all of IMCAP’s programs, please visit our website IMCAP.org.
